This gorgeous 6 year old German Shepherd is Shiba. This classy lady is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly once she realizes we are friends. By the end of her evaluation you could see her come out of her shell and start to shine. Shiba is an easy walker, never pulling, likes to take her time and enjoy the new sights and smells. Shiba willingly shares her food bowl, but had no interest in any of our toys or rawhide. Shiba shares a kennel with another dog and got along fine with the dogs outside. This breed is easy to train, loyal and a very gentle breed. The Plott Hounds are bred in the south for hunting but they have been showing up frequently at the shelter due to rescue transports to the north. Dawson is a handsome young, high energy boy. He was very excited to leave the kennel for a change of scenery. He knows how to sit for a treat and takes it gently from your fingers. His food test was very good although he eats at quickly. He wasn't interested in any of my toys but did take the raw hide and gently released it when asked. He bunks with another dog and they get along fine. He is only 12 months old. An active family would be best for him. This great young Lab mix has been patiently waiting for someone to discover him in this big shelter filled with so many dogs. He is calm, well behaved and has that typical pleasant disposition. True to his heritage, his tag wags at everything & everyone. Even when I put the assessa hand in his food bowl, his tail wagged..no aggression here. He also released the raw hide when asked. He's been in the kennel for over a month but he is unusually calm, well mannered and people focused. He sits for a treat and was a perfect gentleman by the food bowl. He will make a great pet. Pedro is an awesome looking 2 yr young American bully mix. He is strong on the lead but will take correction once he gets some energy out of his system. He loves to be handled and allows you to exam every inch of him. He is energetic and playful but not hyper. He has a happy go lucky personality. Pedro loves toys and releases them without complaining. He will sit for his treats if asked in Spanish and has no issues sharing his food bowl with you. Bobby is a larger 1 year old pit/Staffie cross. This big boy is a super sweet goofball. Bobby enjoys being handled and will lay in your lap for more contact once you stop. He is very into cuddles. Bobby is a bit strong on lead, but when you have so much zest for life it's hard to contain yourself. Bobby loves playing with toys and interacts with you very appropriately. He has amazing manners and shares food and rawhide; you don't even really need to ask and he drops it. He didn't like bologna, but he took it gently before spitting it out. Tink is a super sweet and cute 7 month old Lab/terrier mix. She adores people and other dogs. She is still a bit puppy on the leash but takes gentle correction very well. Tink enjoyed being pet, scratched and handled during her evaluation. She is playful and energetic but not a hyper pup. Tink loved out toy selection and shared them very well with us. She took treats with a very gentle mouth and didn't mind being pet while she ate or having her food bowl handled. Tink was very well behaved with all the doggies she met while she was outside too. Black Jack is a short stout mixture of Staffie with some Black Lab in his ancestry. He was fine on the lead. His handling was fine but he has to learn to keep all fours on the floor when greeting you. He knows how to sit for a treat, His food test was fine. Although pigeons beware if you try to steal his food. He shares his toys and releases the raw hide when asked. A few months ago, Bartlett was rescued from the roof of an abandoned buiilding in Newark. Since he's been with us, he has become one of the best dogs ever...he even gets to go on hikes and attends adoption events. Linus is a goofy two-year-old American bully mix. Linus is ahead of himself on lead, but is easily corrected. Linus LOVES any physical contact he is a big mush! This active young man would love a jogging partner or a yard to run in. This happy boy never takes his eyes off of you. He enjoyed playing with the toys and rawhide and shared without issue. Linus sits for treats and takes them nicely; he has no issue sharing his food dish either. Linus got over stimulated during his dog test. Rocky is a big 4 yr old Rottie mix. He is a beautiful dog with many great traits but he does have some guard dog in him when 'strangers' approach or walk from his area he does growl and bark. He has no issues with food or toys, he shares well and allowed us to handle him from head to tail. He is just all rottie at heart.
